Is my car donation a Tax Write-off?
Third – You get to claim tax deductions for donating! Vehicles donated here will benefit a plethora of different charities. Just check out some of the ads on the left and you’ll find a dozen different organizations that are either classified to the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization or who will send your car to an organization who is a 501 (c)(3) and hence will make your donation tax deductible.

Is there paper work I Need to Fill Out for Donating in NY?
You’ll need to have the title to the vehicle, but even if you don’t have the title—if the vehicle is 8 years old or older, and worth less than $1250 then you will be able to fill out what’s called Form MV37. How can I release the liability of a Donated Vehicle in New York State?
New York requires that you remove license plates, turn these in at your local DMV, and cancel your registration. They require you to do this before you’re allowed to cancel your insurance. If you don’t do this, your insurance company will often continue to bill you which would defeat the purpose.

Do I sign the Title Before I Turn my Car over for Donation in New York?
Yes, you’ll want to endorse the title certificate on the reverse side of your New York State Certificate of Title. There are 2 sections: You must sign the line titled “Seller Signature” right inside of the “Seller” box in “Section 1 – Transfer by Owner”.
